Music Therapy
Registered Music Therapists (RMTs) incorporate a range of music-making methods within and through a therapeutic relationship in order to achieve specific health, functional, and wellbeing related goals. These goals might be related to speech and communication, social interactions, movement, or related to a person's mood, emotions and identity.
Some of the things you might explore with your music therapist are:
-
songwriting
-
therapeutic instrument playing
-
music-assisted counselling
-
developing music playlists for particular purposes
-
therapeutic singing
-
music-assisted relaxation
-
movement to music
-
therapeutic music listening

JIG provides music therapy sessions in your home or other appropriate community venues. Like other allied health professions, music therapy involves an assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation. The process of music therapy is always based around your individual needs, and therefore, no two sessions or programs are the same. JIG therapists bring all instruments and resources needed for sessions to your home/therapy venue. All you need is yourself and readiness to engage. Family and other support people are always welcome to participate in your music therapy sessions if you are comfortable with this.
