Please complete the JIG Music Therapy referral form here. The form will ask you to detail relevant medical and musical history, and what your health, functioning, and wellbeing goals are. After we have received your referral form, an initial session will be booked where we can discuss your goals, and plan an appropriate course of action. Some clients will meet with a music therapist weekly for a set period, others will meet less frequently for a longer period. The time-frame of the therapeutic relationship we develop is entirely up to you and your goals.
What to expect
in your first music therapy session:
-
Meet with your therapist at the chosen location – usually your house or suitable community venue, such as a disability day program.
-
Take part in an informal interview (approximately 15-20 minutes) to discuss your needs, goals, challenges, strengths and interests with the RMT and together formulate a treatment plan.
-
Engage in an approximately 30-minute creative interaction, beginning to explore some music therapy interventions such as songwriting, therapeutic instrument playing, music-assisted counselling, developing music playlists, etc.
-
Caregivers and family are always welcome within sessions as we work in a family-centred way.
-
After the first session, you can decide if you would like to continue with ongoing music therapy with us.
